…a certain gentleman, walking through a wooded area one day, happened upon a seemingly fair maiden, though it seemed she was a bit haggard, unkempt for some time with a bit of a bluish tinge to her tone. He pondered a bit, wondered even as to how and why she was out here, all alone, barely clothed in attire to keep her warm way out here in the woods. So; he walked a little closer, and half bending over, peering at her asked, “Miss, what is it you see?” He stood up again, trying to figure out what she stared at, he could see nothing logical in her line of sight and waited for her to answer. Her lips did not move, and she remained motionless, yet a voice came from no where, out of the blue it seemed, almost like to his mind on the wind saying, “She is not here; she is far away…” He stood there now puzzled. He wandered around attempting to figure out where that voice came from, as it clearly did not come form the young woman slumped on the ground in front of him. When he was satisfied that there was not a person aside from the woman and himself… he walked closer up to the woman, gazed into her eyes, which he concluded were quite blank. But his curiosity was getting the best of him, so he reached out, took her hand, which was quite cool to the touch, and queried once again, “Miss, what is it you look at?” Again, her lips did not move, no answer came from her; but a few seconds later, the voice returned saying, “She is gone, the warmth that once emanated from her has vanished, all feeling and tenderness has been utterly ripped away from her, she is gone.”
Now, upon hearing this, he gasped, and his heart broke for this young lass, he thought, “Surely there is someone that misses her, looking for her…?” And at that very moment, the voice filled his mind again saying, “No one comes for her, she is alone, these many years, all time has virtually stopped for her, she is frozen in a moment of pain, loneliness and anguish never to be released from this state it would seem.”
He stood above her in utter astonishment at these words. He then knelt down, gingerly put his arms around her and whispered to her softly, “Well, then if no one is searching for you, missing you; I will take you in, care for you, keep you safe and warm and protect you sweet young miss (as he softly plants a gentle kiss on her forehead).”
At that moment, he hears her gasp, her eyes flutter with a single tear from each eye, her skin tone then rushes back. She then closes her eyes, flops down to the earth and dies. He jumps back startled by this scene. Then kneels back down at her side, in wonderment at what just happened; he vocally asks this time of the voice that hadn’t failed him thus far at explaining to his mind what he needed to know; he said, “Voice.. are you still with me? What has happened, where did she go?” Alas, this time, no voice came, no answer was delivered, no explanation was pronounced.
Emotion began to fill this man’s heart, he felt sorrow, love, empathy, loss and emptiness all at once and then knew how the young woman felt for those many years. In his emotions he could contain no more, yells out in horror, “WHYYYYY!? Why did she have to leave? I would have looked after her, cared for her, loved her even!!” Again, no voice, no answer, no explanation was received. So, the man took his leave from the lonely wooded area, never to return
